How to override IP address restrictions

The Genesis IP Address Restrictions feature allows you to forbid access to visitors from certain IP addresses.

If you lock yourself out of the system, you will need to override the restrictions so that you can return to the web-based interface and change the rules.

To override the restrictions, follow these steps:

  1. Connect to the web server using FTP or some other method.

  2. Navigate to the folder /genesis/script_data/

  3. Check for a file or folder named "ipar_override". If found, delete it.

  4. Create a new file or folder named "ipar_override". It should be empty.

  5. With each request, Genesis checks for the existence of an "ipar_override" file. If one exists, and if it has been created within the last 30 minutes, then Genesis will disable all IP Address Restrictions. You will then be free to log in.

  6. Log in to Genesis. Go to Admin Page => Manage System Settings => IP Address Restrictions. Either disable them permanently, or edit your Exclusion Rules so that you will be granted access. Use the Test interface to confirm that you will still have access to the system with your IP.

  7. Once you have regained access and tested the new settings, delete "ipar_override".
